For the expats who are working and living in Laos, you can take a driving test at the test center in the country to obtain a domestic license, a domestic driver’s license can last for 5 years. If you are new to driving, you can go to the driving school, where they not just teaching you how to drive, but they also help you to register for a driving test, some driving schools in Vientiane also act as a driving test center as well. Another choice for you are living for a short while is the temporary driving license, you just need a necessary document like a work permit to obtain, both types of licenses can be used only in the country.

With a local driver’s license, you can do pretty much everything when it comes to cars like buying, renting, get a technical checkup, paying road tax, and buying car insurance. Just in case you want to start driving in Laos, do follow the steps we mentioned above and get ready to hit the road.
